St. Helena Island Community Market on the Green

Friends we are excited about our new activities on The Green; the St. Helena Island Community Market.  You may already know that over the years the park has been the site of our annual fundraiser during Penn Center Heritage Days.  The Saturday of the celebration vendors were welcomed to rent a space on The Green to present and sell their wares to the public.  The funds raised from this event are used by the stewardship committee for the upkeep and maintenance of the park benches, trash enclosures, community information board, flagpole and flag, picnic shelter and decor.  In addition, the funds help purchase foods and supplies for the annual community appreciation cookout to thank the members of the community who assist in the cleaning of the park.

As that opportunity during Heritage was no longer available, the committee searched for other new ways to raise funds. For the past two years the committee hosted a Holiday Craft Fair in the park the first weekend in December.  These events were a pleasant surprise to our community and we were encouraged to have more market days on The Green.  A new park committee member agreed to spearhead this suggestion and now we offer a monthly opportunity for our community.

We hope this new market and growing park venue for our community to meet, support each other, see new businesses and experience the culture will grow and become the a place to visit and enjoy.
Our next market date will be June 26, the same day as our annual appreciation cookout.  Please come fellowship with us!
